Born in the Hudson Valley, Lisa Barker grew up near Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, NY.  Her Godfather was the landscape architect there. In her childhood and her teens, Lisa spent much time there and fell in love with sculpture. Among her favorites were Isamu Noguchi, Kenneth Snelson, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Alexander Lieberman, Henry Moore, Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Hepworth, and David Smith. Originally aspiring to become a full-time artist, she studied and worked in wood, metal, and bronze sculpture in college, but life took a turn and lead her to become a chiropractor. After chiropractic school, while simultaneously starting her first private chiropractic practice, she enrolled in Art Life Studios in Portchester, NY, and learned how to sculpt in stone. After taking a hiatus from sculpture to focus on starting a family and continuing her practice, she finally returned to sculpting in 2020 and traveled to Pietrasanta, Italy to carve in marble. She most recently learned the art of ceramics and has fallen in love with storytelling through her art from her soul interpretations of her meditations and dreams.
